Pre Wedding Shoot

Back in February, we did our pre-wedding shoot with Lanelle who is a good friend of mine from school but also an amazing photographer. She's been a very keen photographer all through out high school and has just started doing professional jobs in the past year. She has an amazing eye, great attention to detail and her photos show pure emotion that make you feel like you were there. Lanelle says to us that she's fortunate to be a part of our wedding day but I really feel that we are lucky to have her capturing it.

Coming back to our pre-shoot. The weather didn't agree with us this day, we got some great shots in our backyard but when we started to head into town it started to sprinkle. It was annoying sprinkle too, it was sporadic, too light for an umbrella and left marks on Lanelle's camera lens. Once we got to our location we were also hit by the wind. Lanelle said that we would be able to re-do the shoot again if we wanted but the photos were great! So without further ado, here are some of our pre-wedding photos! (Also used for our save the dates!)

Chillin in the back yard with the dogs :)
Lots of kissing! We were going to use the above picture for our save the dates but then I thought some people probably dont want to see us kissing everytime they go to open their fridge! (Yes, our save the dates were magnets!). We ended up going with the picture below except the magnet had one without our feet in it.

The above is Matt's favourite picture. I'm going to canvas this one and put it on the wall! :)

And of course, since we were in the vicinity, I had to get ice cream! :)

Bridesmaid Dresses

Today I ordered the bridesmaid dresses from NataJane on etsy. I absolutely love these dresses as you can wear them in a multitude of ways, come in 45 different colours to choose from and look super comfortable. Matt and I decided to get them in matte Kelly green because it's similar to Matt's favourite coloured connector pen. I really liked it in the shiny Kelly green but it was a darker shade and I felt that the matte colour was more significant to us. I am a big fan of mismatched bridesmaids so I'm letting my girls wear the dresses however they like. I'm also letting them choose their own hairstyle, jewellery and shoes. The only limit we've really given them is they must have black shoes. We should be getting the dresses in the next month or so. I know the girls are excited to play around with different styles and I cant wait to see what we all look like together!

Sparkler Send Off

We are totally doing it! On the jetty. I will run up and down multiple times coz it looks amazing!

Fun! ^_^

Wedding songs

I feel that music should set the tone and really reflect on who we are. I dont want to be one of those retarded brides that walks down the aisle to Better Man by Pearl Jam just coz its a good song. It's a totally inapropriate wedding song unless you want both families to think that your just settling. : But in saying that trying to find an appropriate song that we both like is FREAKING HARD! Here's a rough list of songs we've discussed:

  • The Time is Now - Moloko: I REALLY wanted to walk down the aisle to a slowed down version of this to this but Matt didn't like it because he has it stuck in his head that I should walk down the aisle to something classical or the lame old "Here comes the bride", totally not my style.

  • Boy and Bear's Cover of Crowded House's Fall At Your Feet: We both thought this would be a great song for walking down the aisle, till I looked up the lyrics meaning and apparently its about this guy has been cheated on and he lets her cheat on her new partner with him or something like that.

  • Today - Smashing Pumpkins: Was written by Billy when he was depressed on tour and its pretty much saying things couldn't get any worse.

  • Big Jet Plane - Angus and Julia Stone: We were thinking of this as our first dance song, because we will be going on a big jet plane for our honeymoon and it's really pretty with no depressing double meaning. We thought it'd be a great leaving song but we want to have a sparkler send-off on the jetty and dont really plan on having a stereo or making the band move down there.

  • Here Comes the Sun - The Beatles: The only Beatles song Matt likes is We Can Work it Out because when we saw Slipknot had it playing in the background when they came out for a second encore. He didn't like this one, not even the instrumental version. *slaps forehead*

  • Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World - Isreal Kamakawiwo'ole: We both liked this but I think its a little overused. But I guess Big Jet Plane has been thrashed pretty hard since it won number 1 in Triple J's hottest 100 too.

I REALLY like Today by the Smashing Pumpkins, should I just make our own meaning for what the song means to us? Or should I just skip over the song and find something else. It's looking like Big Jet Plane will most likely be our first dance song.

Some more songs that I like but haven't discussed yet:

  • Mushaboom - Feist: I think that this song is super cute and to me its about living together and how in the beginning even though you dont have kids or own your home life is still great because your together.

  • Do You Remember - Jack Johnson: the lyrics are just similar to how alot of relationships are, ours included. I'd probably figure out a way to change the lyrics so it was like our story.

  • Better Together - Jack Johnson: Because it is always better when we're together :)

  • Do You Realise - The Flaming Lips: Too bad this song is about saying goodbye.

  • Anything by Barry White coz he's voice is so sexy :P

  • All is Love - Karen O and the Kids: This song makes me happy.

  • Just the Way You Are - Bruno Mars: I blame Glee for making me like this song. I bet it'd get used a bigillion times at a bigillion other peoples weddings.

  • Starlight - Muse: I'm not exactly sure if this is actually a love song, I listen to the chorus and I feel like it is, but most Muse songs have deeper meanings to them.

  • Unintended - Muse: Apparently its about being with the one you were meant/expected to be with. Screw that, it's still a pretty song.

  • Lost in the Moment - Daniel Lee Kendall: Triple J unearthed song that I used for our wedding website only to find that it's used on a scratchy ad >.< Still a cute song.

  • Crazy In Love - Beyonce and Jay Z: So I can booty pop down the aisle...with my dad... >.> srsly.

There are probably crap loads more that I'll think of. I've tried searching for wedding songs in the triple J forums but it kinda crashes >.< Some of the songs I have found weren't really what I was after anyways. Too bad Slipknot or Korn dont have any appropriate love songs coz thats pretty much all we listened to when we got together. Ah well plenty of time. :)

When you need to get ideas out...

but you suck at drawing and writing doesn't quite show your vision.

What better way to break in your wedding shoes?

Brought to you by our dirty floors and awesome vacuum cleaner! :)

More Bridal Party Gifts!

I made the girls some bridesmaid singlets the other night. (I'm a big fan of all the cliche bridesmaid and "future mrs ..." clothing)

Apologies for the dodgy picture. *Silly iPhone Camera >.<*

I bought some cheap singlets, ironed on diamonte transfers from ebay, added cute bows to one of the straps and VOILA! A nice easy gift :) I thought they could wear these while they are getting ready because they should be easy to slip off without ruining hair or make up. And they are just too cute!

Ironing the diamonte's onto the singlet was a tiny bit fiddly! My advice is to keep the iron on them for about 10 times longer than the minimum heat time. This means you'll have more of a chance of the diamontes sticking first time around, meaning you wont have to re-position and add more heat again.

I'm thinking of hand stitching the girls names on the front in one of the bottom corners and maybe adding some more cute little embelishments just to make them that little more customised and personal.

Novelties for the Groomy Men

Excuse Lora's silly face reflected in my table but how cool are these cufflinks for some of our groomsmen! I've decided that for their thank you gifts we'd give them cufflinks to wear on the big day. Each one reflects a little bit about them:
  • Sexy ladies for Luke because he's a bit of a manwhore :P
  • Soccer balls for Daley because he's so crazy about playing football he kept playing even though I swear he needed a knee reconstruction.
  • Gear Shifts for David (Matt's brother) the model car collector and rev head.
  • Cyclists for Brent (my brother) because before he got his motorbike licence he rode his pushy everywhere.
I still have to get some for our Best Man Tristan but he's still sorting out work to make sure he can definitely come. And I'm not sure what to get Matt!
I hope they like them!

Buttons?

So I'm thinking of maybe scrapping flowers completely and going for buttons... maybe?
